emphis and its surrounding metropolitan area is home to over one million people - the 40th largest metropolitan area in the United States. Located around the Mississippi River, the Memphis Statistical area is defined as Crittenden County in Arkansas, DeSoto County in Mississippi and Shelby and Tipton Counties in Tennessee, otherwise known as the Mississippi Delta.
